All pieces are presented in a black observation frame with an integrated magnifying glass (on a brass chain) for close-up viewing.
Caligo atreus (Owl Butterfly)
A giant of the Peruvian rainforest, named for the eye-like markings on the underside of its wings that help deter predators. Beneath the camouflage, flashes of deep blue and bright yellow appear on the upper surface. Its caterpillars feed mainly on Heliconia and can sometimes be a nuisance in banana plantations.
Leucosia anatum (Pebble Crab)
A small “pebble crab” with a smooth, slightly bumpy shell. Its carapace shows a distinctive four-part pattern—often likened to a teddy-bear face—found across a wide range from Australia to Madagascar.
Spinolambrus macrochelos (Large Crab)
A striking deep-water Indo-Pacific crab (family Parthenopidae) with long, slender claws and a spiny carapace. The frame invites you to study its exoskeleton details, fine legs, and protective spines.
Ten-specimen composition Jamides euchilia (Blue Butterflies)
Ten specimens arranged evenly in a black frame. Jamides euchilia, a small Southeast Asian lycaenid, is known for iridescent metallic-blue wings that shift with the light (a structural effect from microscopic scales). The magnifier reveals delicate wing venation and subtle colour changes from the paler base to the richer blue edges.
