Intaglio Ornament

Hand-made French artisanal medallions mounted on hand painted card with pink velvet ribbon. This ornament borrows its look from neoclassical intaglios—engraved seal-stones popular in the late 1700s and 1800s, used to press a personal mark into wax for letters and documents. The profile motif echoes the era’s obsession with ancient Rome and Greece, when cameos and “antique” portraits turned up everywhere from lockets to desk seals. As a keepsake, it also feels very Belle Époque: a nod to the time when correspondence and gifting were made deliberately ceremonial.
